FRB Road Race 10K 2015 : Report

Race Report Pitreavie Forth Road Bridge 10k 2015. Sunday 9th August 2015

The weather report said 16mph winds and no rain.  Nothing to worry about at all and very different from last year.

The North Queensferry Community centre opened at 8 and soon runners were turning up for their race numbers.

Christine Syme, Pam Pattinson and some of Christine’s family arrived and started organising the most important thing: the Food!!!

Marshals had been a problem this year as road runner numbers are very low. On Friday there were still marshal spots with no one assigned to them. I was a bit worried and called my son who lives in Aberdeen to come down and help. Happily he did. I needn’t have worried however. People just turned up and asked if they could help. Moreover some strangers too turned up. Maybe they knew someone in the club but they weren’t known to me. So happy now!

After a short briefing the race was started on time. I mentioned the usual things: Stay on the left; Stay on the pavement especially on the bridge approach or you might be taken out by a bus (it turned out to be a crazy cyclist who obviously thought it was ok to go as fast as he or she possibly could on a public pavement, who nearly caused an accident); don’t throw your bottles into the Forth or drop them on the bridge as if people would!

Every marshal was great and the runners I spoke to afterwards said how well was marshalled the course was. I owe them a huge thank you. Some though deserve special mention: Alan and Heather Forbes. They both did several jobs. In fact Alan was my Right Hand Man.  He also, along with Campbell helped erect all the signage. He helped Donald and me to load up the van on the Saturday and helped unload the van on the Sunday. Irene Miller and Laurence Leask who helped at the out and back section, put flour arrows on the road to mark where runners could cross safely. They also continued the arrows along the road as this is the only bit of the course where the runners are on the right.

Sadly there is a delay with the results but these are being worked on. Please bear with us while we sort this.
