Scottish Record Given After 37 Years!

Published on Wednesday, 11 March 2015 13:23

On 17th March 1978 , Carol Candlish, Pitreavie AAC , an U13G at the time , competed in the 1500m U15G at the AAA Junior Indoor Champs at Cosford, Wolverhampton. Carol did not make the final but posted the superb time of 5m 03.5secs. The event was not included in the Scottish Indoor Championships , very rarely run, and therefore never recognised as an official Scottish Record event.
Carol's performance, however, has been posted on the SATS website as the best performance by a Scottish girl.

However, this year, for the first time ever, the event was introduced into the Scottish Indoor U13G Champs at the Emirates. As a result the Scottish Records committee are proposing to the T&F commission that the event will now be given Record status and as Carol's performance in 1978 is still best known, it will be installed as the first Scottish record at the event.

Congratulation Carol - belated but well deserved.

More info about Carol for current members:
She was one of the Club's best ever athletes, particularly over 400m, as she won the AAA(UK) U17 400m title in 1981 at Crystal Palace and was 2nd in the Scottish Senior event while still U20 in 1983 with times of 54.84 and 54.14. She ranks 9th at 400m in the U20 All Time Scottish list.
