I'm afraid I'm reporting the passing of another member.
Tom Robinson , Life Member and former Treasurer of Pitreavie AAC passed away in Victoria Hospital last week.
Tom did a tremendous amount of work for the Club. He served as Treasurer for 13 years between 1975-1988 raising thousands of pounds for the club , putting us on a sound financial basis. He did that by organising thrift shops and running a Christmas 'Web Ivory' catalogue every year. In order ro stock the thrift shops he would collect old toys , household goods etc, take them home , repair /paint them and store them in his house for the thrift shops. One year he and John Macdonald took over the old St Margaret's Church at the top of the New Row ( site of the Nationwide BS now) and ran a thrift shop for a whole week , taking that week off work.
Christmas time saw the orders arrive from the catalogue as well so his wife, Isabel, used to say the house was always full of Pitreavie 'stuff'''.
His other great passion was the 'Club Bus' . The Bus was used to transport teams all over the UK . On one trip it was stopped for speeding but no one could believe it could travel that fast and once the police saw it hey accepted they had made a mistake..
The Club owe a great deal to Tom and he was rightly made a Life Member.
His daughter Kerry (now Dr Kerry & living in the US) was one of the Club's best middle distance athletes on the track & over the country and still holds the Club Track Records for 1500m , 3000m & 5000m
Tom's funeral takes place at Dunfermline Crematorium tomorrow , Tues 18th August, at 2.45pm. The Club will be represented by several of our older members but I'm sure Tom's family would be pleased if some of the Club's younger generation were present as well.
