Ben Nevis Race 1959 | | On the first weekend of Sept 1959, Sat 5th , Pitreavie AAC became the first non-local club to win the 1st team prize at the Ben Nevis Race. | The Pitreavie team positions were:

In those days the Ben Race started and finished in Fort William - 14 miles to the summit and back. John was leading coming off the mountain but was passed on the 2 mile stretch into the town.
The race today 2nd Sept starts in the Shinty Park at the foot of the Ben - a mere 10 miles.
The medals in 1959 were presented by Sottish Boxing legend , Dick MacTaggart, The Olympic Lightweight Champion from the 1956 Games in Melbourne.
