Pitreavie Athletes dominate Championship sprints and victory in NI Championships |
Pitreavie AAC athletes achieved 10 Gold Medals, 3 Silvers and 6 Bronze medals at the Scottish Under 20 and Under 23 Track & Field Championships at Meadowbank Stadium on Sunday 17th June. The Club’s athletes dominated the sprints with Jamie Coull, Ryan Oswald and Stacey Downie all becoming double gold medallists by winning the 100m and 200m in their respective age groups.

In the Under 23 100m Jamie Coull ran against a headwind of 1.8 metres per second in both the 100 and 200 metres winning the 100 in 10.96 seconds and the 200 in a personal best time of 21.60 seconds.
Ryan Oswald recorded an excellent 10.94 secs for 1st place in the 100m and 22.04 in the 200m.
Stacey Downie took 1st place in the Under 23 Women’s 100m in 12.44 seconds running into a wind of 1.7 metres per second and brought off the surprise of the day by taking 1st place in the 200m in 24.80 seconds also into a 1.7mps wind.
Eilidh Child notched up her 4th Championship title of the season by winning the 400m Hurdles in the Under 23 age group in 58.95 seconds despite having a slight problem with her stride pattern.
In the Field there was a Gold Medal for Caitlin Mackie in the under 20 Women’s Hammer with a throw of 45.26m just fractionally below her best.
Although suffering a hamstring injury during her race, Stephanie Walker still managed to take1st place in the Under 20 women’s 100m Hurdles in 14.94 seconds.
Paul McCloskey became Pitreavie’s tenth gold medallist of the day by winning the under 23 Men’s 2000m Steeplechase in a personal best time of 6 minutes 7.87 seconds.

Men’s Track & Field captain Stuart Chisholm achieved a personal best and took
the silver medal in the U23 Pole Vault with a clearance of 3.45m.
There was a silver medal and personal best time of 1 min 53.71 seconds for Craig Robertson in the Under 23 800m. Catriona Mckay achieved a personal best and set a Pitreavie Club record with a leap of 10.94 metres to take the silver in the under 20 triple jump.
Bronze medals went to Michael Burns U20 400m Hurdles 58.06 a PB, Catriona McKay U20 Discus, Lucy Crookston U20 400m Hurdles, Mark Tough U20 Discus, Rebecca Burns U20 1500m steeplechase and Stephen Urwin in the U23 2000m Steeplechase.

Meanwhile, Francis Smith competed in the Northern Ireland Athletics Championships on Saturday. He recorded a season`s best time in winning the Senior Men’s 400m Hurdles in a seasons best time of 51.90 seconds.
