Go BackPitreavie youngsters storm to British Record
The Pitreavie under 15 girls quartet of Claire Duncan, Anna Robertson, Kirsten Galbraith and Bethanie Finlayson took the gold medal in the 4x200m in a new British and Scottish age group record at the Scottish Senior Indoor Championships and Junior Relays Indoor Championships took place at the Kelvin Hall on Saturday 1st March.

The four girls were involved in a close race with the teams of Giffnock North and Ayr Seaforth with the three teams always in with a chance of winning. Claire led the team off and handed over in a close tussle in 3rd place to Anna who ran strongly to keep the team within touching distance of the other two teams, she then handed onto Kirsten who took the team up into second with another good run leaving Beth to chase down the Giffnock team who were leading a strong last leg brought Beth to the front with only 20m to go and she held her for to them end to bring home the title and the new record of 1:46.80. A great performance by all 4 runners.

In the Senior Championships Pitreavie athletes took 3 gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal. Nick Smith progressed impressively through the rounds of the 60m where he lined up in the final as favourite over training partner Irishman Paul Hessian. A storming start saw Nick in control of the race throughout and he took the title in a new Scottish Native record of 6.64s beating his own mark set back in 2004 the year he last qualified for the British Olympic team.
Francis Smith took the 60m Hurdles title with a winning time of 8.22s. A nervy race where there were 4 false starts before they finally got away Francis held his nerve and dominated the field to take the title. Francis also ran in the 200m where he placed 3rd in the final with a time of 22.45s. The 200m was won by his club mate Jamie Coull who added the indoor title to the outdoor titles he took last summer. In a close race Jamie edged ahead on the final bend to take the title from Craig Fleming of Kilbarchan in a time of 21.77s to Flemings 21.82s. Jamie’s time as a new indoor PB.
Eilidh Child also running over 200m went into the final knowing she was up against a good runner in Kelly Proper from Ireland who had run 0.4 seconds quicker than her in the heats, but it true Eilidh style she lifted her game in the final and pushed the Irish lady all the way coming in a close 2nd with a new indoor PB of 24.76s, Proper’s winning time was 24.69s.
The other silver medal went to Craig Robertson in the 800m. Craig had to fend of a challenge at the death from Englishman Andrew Gourley to take the silver in 1:55.67.

Other Pitreavie athletes competing in the Senior Championships were Sean McQueen who found himself in a tussle after the first 200m of his 400m heat where he was spiked in the process causing him to stumble and lose momentum this proved to make it too difficult for Sean to make the ground back meaning he finished in 3rd place in a time of 51.25s this was still an indoor PB for Sean. Steven Hogg who was 5th in his heat in a time of 7.54s, Steven also came 4th in his 200m heat in a time of 24.28s. Catriona McKay came 7th in the Triple Jump final with a jump of 10.83m. Stuart Chisholm was 4th with 3.20m.

Pitreavie also had 5 other teams competing in the Junior Relays. The under 15 boys (Joseph Millar, Glen Murray, Lewis Hunter and Ewan Dyer) made the final and placed 4th in a time of 1:47.93. The under 13 boys (Daniel Clark, Colin Law, Andrew Walker and Stuart Soutar) also made the final after other teams were disqualified sadly the announcement was too late in the day so they missed out on running the final. They placed 2nd in the heat in a time of 2:11.03. The under 13 girls (Sarah Jane Easton, Chloe Nethery, Rachel Hunter and Louise Russell) were also 2nd in their heat in a time of 2:06.02. The under 15 girls B team (Rose Fagan, Naomi Fox, Sarah Stewart and Kristy Armstrong) were 4th in their heat in 2:03.95. The under 17 men (Peter Munnoch, Anthony Young, Craig Robinson and Richard Le Good) were also 4th in their heat in a time of 1:43.05.

Congratulations to all the athletes for a good performance by everyone.
