Devilla Forest Trail Races 2020

Published on Thursday, 05 March 2020 17:17

With Storm Ciara threatening the ever popular Devilla Forest Trail Races laid on by Carnegie Harriers, the race morning turned out to be better than expected, with a few showers, gusts of wind and some unexpected sunshine.  42 Pitreavie AAC Endurance Section runners took part in the two separate races 5k and 15k through the trails, paths and bogs of Devilla Forest.

With wet and muddy conditions underfoot around Moor Loch, the 5k saw great results for Pitreavie, with Kirsten Suttie securing an outstanding 1st senior female place in a time of 20.22mins, and Claire Henderson 2nd female in 24.02mins.  The 5k successes continued with Debbie Cooper coming 1st in the female 60+ category, Derek Duncan 2nd in the male 60+ category and Ruby McNair 3rd female junior.

The challenging underfoot conditions continued in the 15k with a half mile stretch of thigh deep swampy mud, and icy new rivers in abundance in the second mile slowing everyone down but causing much hilarity.  A firmer stretch of about 3 miles over stones allowed runners to pick up the pace, before the path once again hit muddy forest trails around Morton Loch, alongside the 5k runners, before finishing at the Scottish Police College.  A bottle of Schiehallion beer was the very welcome prize in this well organised race, with great marshalling and Ochils Mountain Rescue turning out to look after runners.
