Scottish Athletics Virtual 15 Min Challenge 24 – 27 April

Published on Wednesday, 13 May 2020 12:50

Pitreavie AAC members took part in the second Scottish Athletics Virtual race – a challenge to see how far athletes could run in 15 mins. With U13s to Masters taking part, this was an event the whole club could join in from their home turf.  Positions were ranked by distance, with the longest distances leading the way in the leader boards. The robust rules included strict adherence to social distancing guidelines, no negative elevation, and no loops of less than 1km, with results being submitted online.  Pitreavie members donned their vests to race the clock in most age categories, including U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U15 Boys, U17 women, U20 women, seniors and masters.

Pitreavie came overall 11th out of 68 clubs with 128.82 km, just ahead of Central AC on 127.54k, a great result for the 47athletes taking part.  In the U17 and over category, Pitreavie also got a top 10, placing 8th with 112.61 km after Edinburgh AC on 118.61k.  The U20 women turned in a superb performance coming 2nd with 8.53 km, behind the leaders Falkirk Victoria Harriers on 12.03 km, while the U17 women also got a well-deserved 3rd place with 8.01 km, just behind Shetland AAC on 8.65km.

The senior women delivered some impressive results; the masters W40 achieving an excellent 4th place on 12.17k ahead of Edinburgh AC’s 11.33k, alongside the masters W45, who were also 4th on 12.31k.  The masters W65 got a great 2nd place with their 3.00k ahead of Kinross Road Runners on 2.71k.  The men also performed well among stiff competition, with masters M40 coming 9th on 10.73k, and senior men acquitting themselves well, also 9th on 16.27k just behind Central AC on 17.10k.

There were notable individual Pitreavie performances among all age groups, with Cam Warner M40 leading Pitreavie’s men on 4.16k, followed by Graeme Downie M45 and Gordon Simpson M50 jointly on 4.14k, Craig Chisholm M40 on 3.85k, while for the boys U15B Cameron Johnston ran 3.68k and U13B Jack McInnes ran 2.9k.  The women didn’t disappoint either, with Suzanne Gray W45 leading the charge on 3.55k, Lynn Harvey U17W 3.41k, Lauren Gordon W35 on 3.35k and U20W Ailsa Marsh ran 3.19k.  U13G Ariane Baillie once again showed her speed with an amazing 3.5k. All astonishing distances in only 15 mins!
