New jogscotland Group at Pitreavie

Published on Saturday, 28 May 2016 21:03

The Road Running section of the club has been working hard over the past year to promote the group and increase membership. The group is very inclusive, however for the newer or less confident runner it may be initially a little daunting. After a lot of thought myself and Anita Dow decided to put a plan in place and in March we attended a jogscotland training day in Glasgow and after being put through our paces qualified as jog leaders. Exciting but a bit scary!

The vision is to start a beginners group, initially on Sunday mornings around Pitreavie and offer a 10 week couch to 5K program for those wishing to improve fitness and get involved in running in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. This will be known as our “ready” stage.

Once beginners have graduated from this group they will move to the “steady” stage. Runners may be happy to remain in this group, but longer term we hope they will be ready to “go” and join the Road Runners.

After some planning we agreed on our start date of 19th June and we have been quite overwhelmed by the amount of interest, in fact our first group is now full!

We’ve been doing quite a bit of research; Anita has joined in some sessions with another jogscotland group and we’ll be pinching a few of their fab ideas, and on Tuesday we both braved a session with the Road Runners. I have to say what a fab supportive group and it was a great session, my furthest and fastest in many years (the best bit about being last is everyone really praises you, I am saying that from experience!). In fact it was so good that Anita went back on Thursday evening to be put through her paces again. The great thing about the session was it did not matter how fast or slow you were as the session catered for all. Longer term we hope to add a jogscotland session working alongside the Road Running group.

As the club continues to be more inclusive to all abilities, we hope this will raise the club’s profile even further and increase membership. But for now, the vision is to get a few more bums off seats and get more people active.

If you think you might like to get “ready” to start running or maybe you want to be one of our “steadies” then please get in touch. Our email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you are already running comfortably then I cannot rate the Road Runners enough (to give you an idea I run 5K in approx. 30min and I managed the session). The group meet on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings at the clubhouse at 6:30 for a 6:45 start and always welcome new members. You can contact them on This email address is being protected from spambots. We also have a facebook page where we will be posting info on a regular basis.

Happy Running!
