National Indoor Relays

Published on Monday, 03 February 2014 08:21

The National Indoor Relays took part at the Emirates Arena today and the club had ten teams participate. In the youngest (U14 Age group) three of the four teams made it to the final, with the U14 Girls B team (Ailsa, Emilija, Jemma and Zoe) narrowly missing out in the heats. Credit has to be given to them as they were in a strong heat and faster than one of the other teams who finished first and gained qualification.

Both the Under 14 Girls A team and the Under 14 Boys  A Team gave us a heart stopping moment during the handovers but both made it to the next rounds as fastest losers. The U14 Boys B team won their heat and earned their place in the final. In the final the Girls team (Rebecca, Erin, Rachel & Lucy) all ran brilliant to secure silver. In the boys race both Pitreavie teams went head-to-head which gave us double the athletes to shout on in the one race! The A team (Billy, Josh, Blair and Alistair) had very smooth changeovers and finished third and the B team just missed out on a medal by finishing 4th.

Both U16 Girls teams made it to the semi-final however the field was strong and unfortunately they were unable to progress to the final. All credit to both teams who made it to the semi, in a very large field of teams it was still a great achievement,

The Under 16 Boys team made it to the final and judging by times looked like it was going to be a very close run race. Changoevers were tight with most teams handing batons over at the same time and the boys just missed out on third place. Again another cracking race and a great achiement to get to the final.

Out of the three Under 18 teams the Under 18 Women's  A team (Sarah, Amiker, Isla & Kirsten) made it to the final with everyone running well to secure silver place.

So three teams made it to the podium, but thanks has to go to every single athlete who gave it their best, and to the parents who supported the whole day.

Both team managers were very proud and as always happy to be representing Pitreavie.
