Organising the Club Champs

Published on Tuesday, 07 April 2015 22:49

The Club Champs is almost here and it's been a real challenge organising it, but I have had some great help getting it off the ground. Some of our more experinced members have been answering questions (pretty much on a daily basis) whilst others such as myself have been learning as we go. The biggest challenge has to be once entries close and the arduous task of working out the timetable, start lists, track cards and seeding; some of the things we take for granted when we go to competitions. I will never ever query again why events clash at big competitions!

I am really excited that we are piloting the Scotstat points system created by Armold Black in a competition environment. Thanks to the time put in by Norma Bruce and Cambell McNair we have an amazing automated results entry system which will hopefully be really efficient and mean we can announce the Club Champions very quickly after the last field event finishes. Norma is more well known on the track and in her officiating capacity, but I get the feeling she has really enjoyed this new challenge.

We have a great lineup of officials for the weekend and they have all been extremely helpful offering advice and support which has been very much appreciated by this newbie. They have assured me that everything is on track and the event will run smoothly...but I guess time will tell!

All the info should now be on the Club Champs page, where you will see we are offering a full track timetable and have also included the Road Runners who will be competing in a 5 mile handicap around Dunfermline and finishing with a lap of the track around 11:45. Watch out for them!

So here's to a great weekend with an amazing bunch of athletes, officials, coaches, volunteers and supporters.

Thanks to everyone involved up to now and to those who are helping at the event,

Nicola

PS If it all goes horribly wrong Paul is your Meeting Manager so see him :-)
