Falkirk 8 Hour Ultra, 2nd February, Callendar Park

Published on Tuesday, 18 February 2020 09:45

30 Pitreavie AAC Endurance section athletes took part in the challenging Falkirk 8 hour Ultra racking up an astonishing 1123m between them. With extremely wet conditions and an early 6.30 am registration the race started at 8am in Callendar Park in front of the magnificent Callendar House.

The ultra-consisted of running an 3.8m distance loop, as many times as possible over the 8 hour period, with the winner being the runner with the most miles logged.  The deluge of the previous day meant the original course had to be re-routed to accommodate a newly formed lake in front of Callendar House, with the new course turning into something more akin to cross country mud than trail.  Everyone who took part showed an astonishing level of physical and mental endurance, and although some spirits flagged at the 7 hour mark, many runners were seen sprinting at the end.  Fantastic support from dedicated Pitreavie club members meant the runners could return to a base, warm up, eat, then carry on going.  The Relay team event also saw Pitreavie member Laurence Leask run as part of Jog Cowdenbeath, who between them ran 50.56m.

There were some great top 10 results for the club, with Lukasz Chwiklewski coming in 3rd male (4th overall) racking up an astonishing 54.13m, Cam Warner 7th male (8th overall) 49.48m, Mike Gudgeon 9th male (11th overall) 48.73m, Louise Millar 5th female 46.11m, and Suzy Goodall 10th female 42.92m.
