East District League Cross County – Stirling

Published on Thursday, 24 October 2013 16:24

To say it was raining is an understatement for the first East league cross country meeting of the season. We had a fantastic turnout and the rain did not dampen spirits. In total we had 52 athletes competing and a summary of the highlights are below:

In the U11 age group we had an amazing 12 girls taking part and with Jenny Gillanders, Sarah Coutts and Jennifer Bryon finishing 2nd, 3rd and 11th respectively giving Pitreavie first place for the team. The other U11’s  many of them competing in their first cross country were Skye Marshall (14th), Beth Aitken (21st), Katie Gostick (22nd), Eilish Deswarte (24th), Abby Chisholm (25th), Rowan McTavish (36th), Kerry McNulty (44th), Fleur Drummond (46th) and Sinead Best (48th). Well done girls!

The U11 boys didn’t manage a team however finished in a fantastic 3rd for Lewis Blair and 6th for Gregor McPherson out of 49 runners. Well done boys and hope we can attract some more runners in this age group for next time.

In the U13’s once again a great entry for both girls (5) and boys (7). Iona Crawford continued her fantastic track success in cross country finishing in 1st position with Zoe Nicholson 8th, Lucy Telfer 31st, Tegan Gostick 32nd and Kym McAlpine 51st. The girls team are sitting 4th overall.

The U13 boys had also great success finishing 5th overall with Alex Johnston 2nd, Kip McTavish 8th, Arran Robertson 39th, Josh Spence 40th, Cameron Pearson 47th, Findlay Pearson 51st and Liam Gillan 55th…great effort boys!

The U15/U17 girls managed to finish in a superb 1st position with great runs from all – Leah Davie (5th), Emily Nicolson (8th), Sophie Nethery (12th) and Sophie Telfer (21st). A special mention must go to sprinters Hannah Gillan, Isla Sinclair and Sarah Allan who completed in their first cross country since U11 and finished in 44th, 46th and 47th respectively – and still managed a smile at the end!

The U15 boys team also had a great race, consisting of James Adam (14th), Tyler White (15th), Dylan Thomson (21st), William Cain (24th), Andrew McNair (25th), Ben Grant (30th) – the boys sitting well placed in 4th team position.

Congratulations to Penny Hicks our sole lady runner finishing in an impressive 86th  out of 103 runners.

Aidan Thompson finished in 2nd position closely behind his Edinburgh rival in the U17 mens race and was followed by Corey Smith (27th) and sprinter Cameron Sinclair (32nd)  the team 5th overall.

Finally in the mens race we had 9 runners with the team finishing in a great 13th position. First home was Ben Potrykus (44th) followed by Owain Williams (69th), Scott McAlpine (89th), Jeff Farquhar (105th), Neil McLaclan (168th), Steven Perry-Clyde (191st), Jack Lawrie (203rd) and Laurance Leask (218th), Campbell Blair (229th)

A fantastic start to the cross country season and well done to all. Hopefully we can encourage others to give it a try.

Next up is the National Cross Country Relays in Cumbernauld and good luck to all those participating.
