Men's League Match 2 - 18th May Report

Published on Monday, 19 May 2014 16:33

Only 11 athletes travelled to Aberdeen for the 2nd fixture to keep Pitreavie’s promotion hopes alive due to international call ups and exams. Captain Francis Smith filled 5 events winning the sprint hurdles to keep his unbeaten record going and scoring 43 points for the team.

Donald Tod made up for missing the first match by winning the long jump and B 100m (6m81cm & 11.6) Donald scored the team 46 points on the day. Ever reliable Declan Brennan scored 36 points for the club running the 100m, 200m 4x100m and throwing the shot putt. The sprinters had to endure horrible head winds but Declan still managed 11.53. youngster Will Murray made his first appearance in the men’s league and gave a good account to finish 4th in the B 200m.

The veteran on the team David Agnew put in a hard fought 400m to finish 4th and covered other events scoring 29.5 points for the team.

In his first outing for Pitreavie Graham Gibson took victory in the B 800m and helped the 4x400m team, Michael Burns still in his transition to distance running finished 2nd in the 800m A race and 3rd in the 400m A race and also ran a storming 4x400m leg to get the team into second place.

The distance boys had to endure the wind on the way around the track, Corey Smith struggling with an injury finished 2nd B in 1500m and Tyler White finished 4th A 1500m.   Ben Potrykus finished 3rd in the 5000 and ran the 4x400m   Neil MacLachlan just back from injury had a run out in the 5000 but just missed the points standard but the support he gave the team was fantastic.   The mens' 4x100m Team stormed to victory with Smith, Brennan, Tod and Murray swiftly getting the baton round.

A special mention to Fiona Brennan who travelled with the team to help out. and well done to the 11 guys who travelled,   The athletes of the day were Donald Tod, Michael Burns & Declan Brennan (was hard to pick one).  The team now sits joint 3rd in the league on the same points as 4 others and only missing out on 2nd by 12 match points. The push for promotion is still on and with a home fixture on July 13th at Grangemouth and we hope to continue the push but can only do this if athletes are willing to turn out.
