Pitreavie Road Runners took part in the second and third of their Championship races over successive weekends at the Gartmorn 6 multi-terrain race and the Alloa Half Marathon. Numbers were down as some runners were missing through injury or illness, although a few were returning to action after absences for similar reasons.

Success for PAAC young road runners...

Emily Nicholson and Zoe Nicholson took part in the Carmondean 5K on 29 September, this was  the first time either of them had raced over this distance. They were allowed by the organisers to run in the adults race.

Emily was 2nd  “lady” in a time of 21.00 and Zoe 3rd “lady” in a time of 21.39 –a great time for both of them on a twisting and undulating course.

They were beaten by 1st placed  Edel Mooney; the current V35 GB Trail Running champion. She had quite a surprise when both girls started the race on her shoulder, but managed to shake them off and win by  2 minutes.

Road runners in Moray

Published on Wednesday, 04 September 2013 09:19

On the 1st September a number of the road runners headed up to Elgin to race over the various distances on offer. There was a 10k, 1/2 marathon and marathon all available and there were Pitreavie AAC athletes racing in each.

On the start line for the marathon, Avril O'Donnell, Alan Forbes and Donald Macleod were ready for the 26.2 miles and they headed off at 9:30am. Leaving Elgin out towards Burghead then along to Lossiemouth before heading back to Elgin.

Once they had started Owain Williams got on the bus provided by the organisers and headed out to the start line of the half marathon which was also a Scottish Athletics' Championship race.

The half and 10k both started at 11am.

The weather wasn't ideal for any of the distances, with a strong head wind for the final 3 miles and driving rain passing through during all of the races, however, even with the conditions everyone gave it their best efforts.

Avril completed the marathon in 3:54.18, Alan finished just behind with a season's best in 3:55.12 and Donald got a new personal best with a time of 4:27.21

Owain ran a season's best for the half marathon in 1:25.20 and Mandy also got a season's best for the 10k in 1:05.54

All enjoyed the races and would like to thank the organisers for a great day.
